Reference: Textile Techniques in Metal by Arline M. Fisch

NOTE Need to be familiar with basic wirework techniques.

Necklace

Using 14g wire cut 2 x 16cm lengths.

Using measuring cup (1 cup) place wire around the outside to form the shape for both 14g wires.

Join pieces as per diagram 1.

Using 10cm 22g wire, follow Diagram 2 to attach center bead section.

Note:  20g wire can be used instead of 22g.   Attach Center as in diagram 2 - A; thread on 6mm glass pearl; 2mm metal bead; Bug; 2mm metal bead; glass pearl as per B; then finish by wrapping as per C.

5.      Using 1m of 26g wire:

  • a. Secure wire by doing 3 wraps around the 14g wire at start point in Diagram 3.
  • b. Follow direction of arrows doing 2 wraps at each point of attachment. At attachment 1 and 2 ensure that the wire goes behind the Center Bead Piece.
  • c. At section 5 add 3 x 2mm silver metal beads, do a wrap around wire 3 and add another 3 x 2mm silver metal beads.
  • d. Wrap on one side of the Bead Center Piece, then on the other side of Bead Center Piece.
  • e. Repeat as in section 6 to add other beads in.

6.  Using 1m of 26g wire attach wire at starting point in Diagram 4 and commence to coil around the 14g wire. Follow the arrow directions to complete the coiling around the bottom section of the 14g wire.

7. Cut 2 lengths of 20g wire 16cm long.

a.  Take one piece and thread through the top loop of the Center Piece, as in  Diagram 5. No 1. Using Round nose pliers make a coil of 3 wraps.

  • b. Thread a Disc onto the wire, then using Round Nose Pliers create a bend in the 20g wire, just behind the coil, bringing the coil flush with the 14g loop, now loop the coil section back over the loop (no 1.) onto the Disc.
  • c. Now complete the section by adding a 3mm metal bead, Disc, 3mm metal bead, Disc, then create another coil and fold back on it's self as in No 2.
  • 8. Repeat step 7 for the other side.

9. Using 26g wire

Attach to loop at figure 1 on 14g wire. Thread on Leaf plus 4 x 2mm metal beads, wrap around the section between figures 1 to 2.

  1.  Add second leaf plus 3 x 2mm metal beads.
  2.  Finish by wrapping around the 14g wire, trim and tuck in ends.

Repeat on the other side.

Cut 2 pieces of Tiger tail 25cm long.

a.   Attach by crimping to the wire coiled section just completed.

  • b. Thread on bead section, LEAVE END UNFINISHED.
  • c. Repeat to complete the other side.

The Clasp

11.  Cut 2 lengths of 20g wire 15cm long. Take one length and coil 4 times . Repeat the same for the other piece of wire.

12.  Place round nose pliers 3cm from coil, and bend wire back towards coil. Position wire so that it is pinched close to the other wire, (wires side by side)

13.    Place round nose pliers 1.5cm from coil and bring the bent end up over the pliers forming a hook.  Create a loop wrap at other end attaching the tiger tail section and crimping to finish.

14.   Take the second piece of coiled wire and create a loop bringing the wire back under the coil.  Then create a wire wrap loop. Complete the same as in Step 12.

15.   Necklace is now complete.

EAR RINGS

Cut 2 - 16cm lengths of 20g wire.

  1. Shape one piece of wire around a film canister. At the point of cross over, keep both wires flush beside each other and use round nose pliers to turn both wires up, remove the wire circle from the canister as in Diagram 1.
  2. With one wire wrap it around the other wire, and turn it down towards the bottom of the circle as in diagram 2.
  3. Now create a wrap loop using the wire facing up above the circle.

5.      On the wire turned down across the circle thread cats' eye 1 x 6mm; 2 x 2mm metal beads; Bug; 2 x 2mm metal beads; cats' eye 1 x 6mm, then wrap end around base of circle.

6.      Cut 1m of 26g wire

a. Commence to coil wrap around 20g outside circle following the noted pattern.

Note: When coiling - do a few wraps, and then push it tight up against previous coils to keep consistent coils.

  • Coil for 9 wraps add 2mm metal bead
  • Coil for 12 wraps add 2mm metal bead
  • Coil for 12 wraps add 2mm metal bead
  • Coil for 12 wraps add 2mm metal bead
  • Coil for 12 wraps add 2mm metal bead
  • b. 1 x 2mm metal bead when going over bottom section of coil center wrap.
  • c. Continue up the other side until reaching the top wrap loop.
  • d. Add 2 x 2mm metal beads and cross over the center wire section to the back, bringing the wire back around to the front; add another 2 x 2mm metal beads, repeating the previous wrap to finish off.
  • e. Trim and tuck in end.

7.      Attach Sterling Silver Ear Hooks to complete earrings.

How To Make Wire Wrap Loop

How To Make Wire Wrap Loop
These are very easy to make and a technique which can be used to make chains, ear rings etc.  Tools you will need are Wire Cutters, Round Nose Pliers and Chain Nose Pliers.  Lengths of wire can be used to wrap loops.  For this tutorial Head Pins are being used.

Tip
Using Nylon Jaw plier to straighten wire will not make the wire.  This can also be done by using your fingers or a cloth, just be mindful of over doing as it will harden the wire.  By adding tool magic coating to your pliers, will add a protection (rubber like affect over the tips of the pliers) hence this is not make wire.
ImagePlace a 10mm bead on the headpin.
Using round nose pliers. Clasp the wire above the bead. Take the end of the wire using the fingers or chain nose pliers and bend the at right angles to the bead.  Note the wire folds flush over the sharft of the round nose pliers.
Using round nose pliers. Grasp wire at the bend. Hold.
Then using your fingers or chain nose pliers, bring the short end of the wire up and over the top of the shraft of the round nose pliers.
NOTE If attaching to Studs, a soldered ring or another connection the hook the loop through to make the connection before commencing to wire wrap.
Continue to bring the wire under the pliers.
Reposition the round nose pliers across the top of the loop and hold it firmly, the wrap the short wire around the stem a few times.Chain nose pliers can be used to hold the wire that is wrapping around the stem.
Finish wrapping, then trim the excess wire using wire cutters.  Make sure the cut end is pressed close the wraps this can be done using the chain nose pliers.
Completed   Just add your ear hook to complete a set of ear rings.
